HOW YOUR CHOICES MATTER IN THE UNIVERSIM

Our team is hard at work on that oh-so-sweet update for the Steam Release going live on August 28. We’ve got a whole lot of new systems coming with the patch, and we’re going to be discussing one of them today. Buckle up!

Introducing God Quests.

As a god, you have to deal with a lot of prayers. While some of them may be spam - and a fair amount will be ludicrous - there are a few genuine, reasonable requests you might want to take a look at. Nuggets will ask for help with various tasks, or request aid during hard times. They might throw in a few bizarre ones now and then, and it’s really up to you to decide if you want to fulfill them or not.

We are also adding legendary Nugget Influencers
and Inventors with this system.

Inventors are notable Nuggets who will alter the course of your civilization’s progress with their quests. For example, you will be able to choose which technology path your civilization follows with the quests from Nuggola Tesla. Nuggola will have a dilemma; he discovered that there are several ways of generating Electricity, and he will need your help to end the battle in his mind over which technology to pursue. There will be three ways to generate Electricity:

Kinetic - Wind Turbines

One path leads to Wind Turbine Electricity Generators. This is a relatively passive and clean way of generating Electricity for your civilization. However, it’s a little unpredictable, due to the production relying solely on the wills of the wind. Wind Turbines will not work during Windstorms (to protect them from being ripped apart) or when there is no wind at all.

The good news is, you’ll be able to store any energy surplus in Batteries. Stored power can then be utilized when Wind Turbines aren’t generating enough Electricity to keep your cities’ lights on.

Kinetic - Nuggetic Motion Generator

Now, here’s an idea. You know all of those Nuggets you have running around? Are they really all being productive members of society? We doubt it. That’s why you will be able to use Nuggets to generate Electricity for your civilization. It’ll be great for their health, it’ll definitely keep the lights on, and it only requires a bit of light whipping. If you have Nuggets to spare, and you don’t really want to take your chances with the wind, then this is a great system. Of course, excess Electricity is stored in the same way as other Generators.

In a similar manner to fancy cars, there is an Insane Mode Button that pushes things into overdrive on the Nuggetic Motion Generator. Nuggets will run like mad, producing far more energy than before. However, use this with caution. Nuggets have been known to explode without warning. Cover expensive furniture beforehand.

As mentioned, these methods of Electricity generation are 100% environmentally friendly. There is, of course, a far more aggressive approach that replaces unreliability with consistency and clean air with pollution - the Electric Gas Plant.

gas_plant_1.jpg

Electric Gas Plants are behemoths when it comes to generating Electricity. They spew it out with ease. However, there are significant downsides. You’ve probably already guessed why, but it’s mostly because this system burns through Natural Gas, which is only found underground. In order to extract Gas, you will need to build Gas Mines. This precious resource will then be delivered to Electric Gas Plants to be converted into Electricity.

Gas Plants will cause a steady decrease in air quality, with an additional side effect involving global temperature increases. But, hey, at least Gas Mine owners will get filthy rich.

Inventors and Influencers

There will be many more Inventors and Influencers throughout your civilization’s advancement, but they will appear randomly. Our goal is to offer you a different experience every time you play the game. Before you tell your friends all about it, here are a couple more Influencers you might come across:

Elon Nugsk - A clever Nugget with some grand and occasionally silly ideas. He will help begin the Planet Colonization initiative. He also may or may not send expensive machinery into space for fun. Keep an eye on him.

elan.jpg

Donnug Rump - A Nugget who has a peculiar fascination with walls. He will allow you to build advanced walls around your civilization to protect against extraterrestrial threats or other unwanted intruders. He should never be put in a position of power, but his rants about wall designs have proven to be useful in certain scenarios.

trump.jpg

Florence Nuggingale - Her healing hands and tireless efficiency will lead to significant improvements in Hospitals, increasing the total number of patients a Hospital can serve at a time, as well as their Happiness.

Kim-Joe Nug - His sole intention is to provide Nuggets with Nuclear Power. However, many Nuggets may need to be sacrificed to achieve his goal.

kim.jpg

Nuggie Curie - Her contributions will lead to the invention of the X-ray machine, reducing the time needed for diagnosis of injuries or pain. This will result in faster healing times for patients.

Wrong Brothers - These guys are crazy. They think Nuggets will be able to fly like birds. We all know that Nuggets can barely walk to begin with, so we’ll have to see whether they’re wrong or wright.

We hope you’re as excited as we are for these new features to make their way into the game. Let us know if you have any suggestions for Influencers or Inventors you’d like to see. Tell us their contributions and how they will alter gameplay, and don’t forget to come up with a terrible pun for their names. We will hopefully get a few more in before the Steam release, but rest assured that more will follow.

Be sure to share this with your friends and family - they might have crazy ideas as well!

Okay didn't see it... ;) As long as the Quests and prayers are not delivered trough god mail system... I'm looking forward to this. But as I said in the other topic... I would not use real world references as the game is a "fantasy universe". Using real world references feels like a short joke but gets old over time. I would create timeless fictional characters. Maybe in 10 years nobody remembers the real world reference and the joke is gone.

Besides that. I like the idea of special god quests. BUT I hope godly strengt is increased drastically. Especially quests that allow you to choose between more secular or more godly gameplay ways... And I repeat myself... A quest that allows the invention of guard towers or a god strengt increase to kill enemies and animals. A quest that allows the invention of bunkers OR a godly shield to protect nuggets.... and so on.

Hey, are you saying that you want guard towers and bunkers explicitly tied to God powers and questing? Because they've been in the game since the last release. They weren't working the greatest to be fair, but you'll see an improvement on that come August :)

I prefer to choose to be a mighty god or a "watcher". I don't feel like a mighty god when my nuggets build guard towers instead of praying to me for protection. The same goes for bunkers. What kind of god am I if my followers prefer shelter from a bunker (which where introduced because of fallout ;) ) instead of trusting me? That's only me and my opinion. So yes I'd prefer a choice for those who like it how it is and for those who prefer a more godly way. What would be better than a quest? :) As long it's not delivered trough GOD MAIL. ;) Be a bit creative.... "prayer thinking bubbles" ;)

And yes there have to be more decisions to please different player groups. Especially the one player group actually not present in the game. The God game players. This game COULD please builders and god game players if you develop it that way. You only need to listen. We're willing to share our thoughts in peace and harmony. ;) IF you listen. ;)

Well, I can promise you'll have your wish answered in some way in August ;) There's already a system in place that will allow a more direct and godly approach to defending your nuggets that will undoubtedly be in the August release.

As long it is no godly bunker ;) I'm looking forward to it. ;)  But defending the nuggets is one thing... There are many other ways...

While you listen ;)

Wishlist:

  • sacrifice altar
  • tree planting power
  • more creation powers... that should be not as expensive as the rain cloud at the moment...
  • a real prayer enclave or temple
  • god build options (spend prayer power to finish buildings without the need of resources)
  • easy resource gathering for god
  • zoning ;)
  • prayer power management (force nuggets to pray for more prayer power)
  • .... ask more ;)
  • overthink the use of real world references

Thank you for posting, Colin! :)

Will the choice of the one or the other method affect our society as well? Meaning that some nuggets may start to rebel against god's choice?

Also, both, the wind turbines and the motion generator, may be eviromentally friendly, but the motion generator has something of a punishment system, heh. Is this intented?

Also, I like the "storyline driven research quests" ,heh.

EDIT: Agree on the matter that god mail is not a very apealing way of accessing the quests, they should be tied to the nugget's postion on the planet. Maybe highlighted via ... "bubbles" over their heads or something like that. (Maybe coloured differently, depending on the relevance) ;)@Kerby84

I appreciate this direction of development and some of the humor, however that being said, to ensure a larger audience upon launching there should be no political references in the game.

Well, it's somehow human nature to deal with sensitive issues in a satirical / humorous way.  But since it's a very present and also very delicate "global situation" with many different opinions of people who are affected by it or not, I'd rather suggest to avoid these, eventhough I like that, heh.

Also if you don't want to have a split community with members  *accusing each other of being ignorant*...

Anyway, I'm not affected, so my point of view may be different...

Just for clarification, it sounds like the three electricity generation methods will be exclusive? As in, you can only select one of the three.

If that's the case, my thoughts are that it shouldn't be exclusive. Or at the very least, the exclusivity should be a line drawn between renewable and non-renewable energies.

I've said this in the discord but I wanted to say it here as well:

I agree that, while I found them funny, references to real world politics needs to be nixed from the game. I love the idea of these special nuggets but they should be celebrating the scientists, engineers, artists and musicians, as Civilization did but, of course, with a nugget-themed spin.

Civ recognizes and celebrates tons of real world politicians.  Big-name politicians go on to become historical figures, for good or ill, and are instrumental in the development of a culture and species.  Deities would also be very aware of these influential and significant political figures.  They literally change the course of the planet.

Please, if there are going to be any references to real world scientists, engineers, and/or artists, please absolutely DO include references to civilizational-changing (game-changing?) real world politics as well.
